Season 4 Castle Premiere

Picture
After ending last season with a bang, ABC's hit drama Castle had a lot of hype to live up in its season 4 premiere episode. We last saw our favorite crime fighting duo at the Captain's funeral, where Beckett was put in the cross hairs of a sniper's deadly rifle. Don't fret however, for Beckett survives (didn't see that one coming) and is back on the job in no time. Literally, Beckett seemed to jump right back up after surviving a gunshot to the chest and got right back to work solving crimes with our favorite mystery writer, Richard Castle.

The burning question as to whether or not Castle's declaration of love to Beckett as she bled out in his arms, would be addressed later within the episode. Early on in the episode, Beckett tells Castle she has no recallection of the shooting, but later reveals to her shrink in the final moments of the episode that she remembers everything. TV Guide offered some insight into Beckett's rational for lying to Castle. " Beckett...is clearly still a bit shaken up from her brush with death, is able to admit that she wants to work toward a relationship with Castle — after she finally closes her mother's murder investigation, which set this whole deadly chain of events in motion." Fans can only hope that this a case that will be solved soon. However, this will prove to be difficult since, Castle had to convince Beckett to back off the investigation. Series creator, Marlowe,  informed us, "Castle is in this terribly conflicted position...It ends up being a huge sacrifice for Castle to ask Beckett to back off, because he's actually asking her to back off of the relationship."

Overall, Castle set viewers up for an action packed season. And even while the writers may have been guilty of using repetitive, fill-in-the-blank drama, Castle still opened with a solid season 4 premiere.

TVLine on ABC's Castle Premiere

Picture
It was, in a painful way, poetic. Just as ABC’s Castle ended its Season 3 finale with its titular novelist (played by Nathan Fillion) professing, “I love you” to Detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), the Season 4 premiere closed out with a game-changing three-word confession of its own.

I remember everything.”

Yep, after claiming to Castle that she had no recollection of her shooting, let alone what happened or was said to her in the moments immediately afterward, Kate revealed to her psychiatrist (Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Michael Dorn) that she had been lying, and thus knows full well how Rick feels about her.

So why the cover-up? Why push Castle away for several months after the incident? During our visit to the Castle set, TVLine invited series creator Andrew W. Marlowe to answer those burning questions, and others.

TVLINE | Why did Beckett lie to Castle about remembering?
Being the kind of person she is, I think she’s not ready to deal with the emotional consequences of accepting what she heard. She has very strong feelings for Castle, which she recognizes but is concerned about acting on because she’s concerned about what it will do to their relationship. She’s also concerned that she’s at a point where she’s really fragile. She wants a real relationship, she doesn’t want to be a “conquest,” just another one of the many women he’s been with. She feels like he’s important in her life, and that she should be important in his — and she doesn’t trust that yet.

TVLINE | But they have these moments – like, in the hotel room in Los Angeles – where any two consenting adults would have simply gone for it and kissed already. What’s the danger?
Well, have you ever been in love with somebody who you’re really good friends with? And you know it could all go bad?

TVLINE | Yes – and it did. [Laughs]
See, there’s a lot at stake – basically their whole relationship — and I think there are some questions in her mind that are unsettled, about his life and his marriages… and about who she is and whether she’s ready for that relationship, for “The One.” She’s come to recognize that she has some work to do on herself before she can open up – and she is not by nature an open person, because of some of the things that have happened in her life.

TVLINE | In your mind, did Castle’s name come up in her breakup talk with Josh?
I think that it came out of Josh’s mouth. I think that she tried keep it out of her mouth, but I’m pretty sure Josh mentioned it a number of times.

TVLINE | Nathan did a great job of making Castle appear positively crestfallen upon realizing his “I love you” fell on deaf ears. How quickly will he jump back in the game, if at all?
The answer to that is in the [premiere], where she offers him hope. There’s subtext when she’s saying, “I’m not going to have the relationship I want to have until I solve my mother’s case.” And now we’re in a really interesting situation where he can’t let her look into it, because she’s going to be killed –  that’s really the impediment here. That allows us to continue with the Beckett-and-Castle tension and playfulness as we’re moving forward. As you saw at the tail end, we had two very big revelations – that Castle was going to push forward on the [Johanna Beckett] case without her, and we get her admission that she remembers. They both have these enormous secrets from each other this season that hopefully will color and play into the subtext of everything we’re doing. If either of these secrets comes to light, the other party could see it as being a huge betrayal.

TVLINE | If Beckett ever learns that Castle purposely led her away from the case, she’s going to be pissed.
And how do you think he’ll feel if he discovers that all this time she has known [what he said]?

TVLINE | See, that I think is more forgivable. She’s protecting her heart.
But what does she want? There’s a lot of fun material to be mined there.

TVLINE | So, given what she said, will Kate not be dating at all?
Uh…. I would not want to say no. I want the fans to tune in and see how we handle it. I make no grand pronouncements on either of them and their relationships. I know what our fans are investing in, and we want to be fair and honest with them and not frustrate them too much.

Can Castle Survive Without Its Leading Lady?

Picture
Reports have been circulating about problems concerning the contract of Castle star, Stana Katic. Katic's contract currently would carry her through five seasons on ABC's hit crime drama, but rumors have been indicating that Katic wants out.

If Katic were to leave the series, many fans would be up in arms, but more importantly, critics wonder if the show can go on. Show executives are even starting to question if the actress will be able to make it through another season playing the one and only Kate Beckett. However, they strongly believe that the show would be able to carry on with Richard Castle serving as the lead.

Castle Season 4 Poster

Picture
Castle is giving us another mystery to chew on as we approach its Sept. 19 return: What clues, if any, can be gleaned from the official Season 4 poster?!

To best answer that question, one first must determine what exactly is happening in the image below. Given where things left off in May — with Castle confessing his love to a near-dead Beckett — conventional wisdom suggests that she’s shushing him before he opens his mouth (and heart) any further. Of course, that assumes she even heard him in the first place.

Spoilery Video: Castle Takes the Blame For Beckett’s Shooting

It’s also possible, particularly given the mischievous look on their faces, that Beckett is trying to stop Castle from taking their forthcoming secret love affair public! That scenario also plays into the intriguingly punctuated ”Partners. In Crime” tagline in that it suggests they are joined both professionally and personally.

It also may just be a fun, provocative piece of art that holds no hidden meaning.

Breaking Beckett News

Picture
Rumors have been surging about a problem involving Stana Katic's contract. The actress appears to seeking an early release from her duties on the hit drama. This is not the first time that Katic has stirred up drama on set.

How the show would handle the departure of Katic is unknown. Would they re-shoot the premiere and kill her off? Will they have her survive the shooting only to be killed a few episodes later? Will Kate Beckett quit the force? Or will Stanic decide to remain on the show? Stay tuned for more drama surrounding the actress.

Castle Goes True Blood

Picture
True Blood vamp Jessica Tuck is temporarily retracting her fangs for a guest spot on ABC’s Castle, TVLine has learned exclusively. The actress will play a wealthy museum benefactor who becomes a suspect in a murder investigation. This is the same episode that features The Killing‘s Kristin Lehman as an art insurance investigator and a potential lust interest for Nathan Fillion’s titular detective.

Castle Scoop: Trouble on the Horizon for [Spoiler] and [Spoiler]?!

Like Fillion, Tuck got her first big acting break on One Life to Live. Although the two never appeared on the soap at the same time, their characters were half-siblings via Viki.

Castle‘s fourth season launches Sept. 19 at 10/9c on ABC.

Ausiello on Castle

Picture
When asked about Beckett's current flame, Ausiello responded with a puzzling answer. Many wonder if the disappearance of Beckett's boyfriend after the premiere means that we will also say goodbye t our favorite detective. See the Q & A below:

Question: Haven’t really heard much about Beckett’s boyfriend Josh (Victor Webster) on Castle. I know he’s in the premiere but other than that, nada. What’s going on there? —Ivy
Ausiello:
I think you just answered your own question.

Hit Show May Give Diva The Boot

Picture
Recently spoiler websites around the globe have been speculating about a blind item released by TVLine. Many of these sites seem to indicate the "Diva" in question is in fact Stana Katic of ABC's crime drama, Castle, and the season finale certainly didn't relinquish any of those suspicions. We'ved posted the article below and will leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions.

TVLine – Gadzooks, I can’t tell you how much it pains me to have to write this Blind Item. But hey, at least it is a Blind Item, so unless you’re feeling especially insightful today, you’ll be spared the angst of knowing whom it’s about.

The reason this story so bothers me is that it pertains to both a show and a performer that I really like. The show is relatively new, but a hit; the performer, also new and also a hit. Unfortunately, I’m now hearing from multiple sources that the actor/actress in question has become the kind of diva that alienates fellow cast members and the crew… to the point that a pink slip is being considered.

Now, to be clear, let me reiterate that firing is only being considered. Because, as big a pain as the brat in question has become, he/she has also become a big star. So a whole lot of discussion will go into the matter before the axe is swung — if it’s swung.

Will it be? I wish I knew. I’ll tell you when I find out. But in the meantime, be glad you’re in the dark. And, if you’re in a masochistic mood, go ahead and guess below the identity of the ingrate. And to avoid some innocent folks getting caught in the crossfire, I’m going to go ahead and rule out all of these people . And here’s one more hint: This person’s first name does not start with “L.”

Meet the New Captain

Picture
ABC has recently announced that Penny Johnson Jerald will take over as the new captain on ABC's hit drama Castle.

Jerald is known for her previous roles on Bones, NCIS, and 24. She will portray a former Internal Affairs Investigator, Victoria "Iron" Gates, and fans should prepare for Gates to clash with some of her coworkers. Perhaps she won't be to keen on Castle shadowing one of her detectives.

Tune in on Monday, September 19th to see Jerald in action.
